He keeps you locked in a tiny, prison-like room in the basement of his mansion. Rarely do you even catch a glimpse of the rest of the house, and then it is only the bare stretch of hall that leads out from your prison. Never since you were captured have you looked upon the outside world. The wizard feeds you on disgusting mushy food with plenty of nutrients, but little in the way of taste. This morning you get out of bed to see the wizard making his daily breakfast visit to your room. But today he brings no breakfast. "Hello there!" he says cheerfully. "Today is the anniversary of our first meeting. I've had you for a whole year! So we'll celebrate." Your heart races. This may mean you get some decent food! The wizard sees your face light up. "That doesn't include you," he scolds. "I'm taking my friends out to breakfast. That's the cheapest meal. But it's still very expensive, so you'll have to go without food for a day to make up for it." This is about the worst he has treated you yet! He has plenty of money to spare, you know it. He tells you all about his mansion, his limousine, and his heaps of servants. Yet he says he can't afford to feed you if he goes out to eat. "Goodbye!" he says, interrupting your thoughts. Not waiting for you to respond, he heads for the door. As he leaves the room, carefully locking the door behind him, you see a small object fall from his pocket. But before you can investigate, a new thought dawns on you. If it is the anniversary of your capture, it is your birthday! You nearly cry as you think of your last day at home. It started out as a perfect birthday, but by the evening you were locked up in your prison. You think of all the presents waiting on the table. You were just about to open them when he appeared. It's your birthday, and the old miser isn't feeding you a thing! This has got to stop. You suddenly are determined to get out of here and back to your parents. END_ROOM_DESCR ROOM 65 ; At Home At Home POINTS 1 GAME_WIN END_ROOM ROOM_DESCR 65 ; At Home You find the door open and step inside your house. Everything is as you remembered it. You run to the kitchen. Why, your presents for your eleventh birthday are still on the table! Only there are twice as many as before. Your parents must have gotten presents for your twelfth birthday as well. But why are you thinking about such unimportant things? You call your parents. "Mom? Dad?" you cry joyfully. They come running up through the other doorway to hug you. "You came home!" your mother says, a mixture of joy and surprise in her voice. She hugs you again, nearly lifting you off your feet. Then she breaks into tears of joy. "And just in time for your birthday!" exclaims your father, hugging you from the other side. "We got you presents, even though we didn't really think you'd come home. We knew it would be useless to search for you." "But why did you think it would be useless?" you ask, after they both have let go of you and settled down a little. "Well," begins your mother, "we didn't at first. But about a week after that man kidnaped you, we met a lady who convinced us it was really useless." Your father continues. "We were putting up signs around the neighborhood with your picture and a description of the man who took you away. Then the lady walked up and looked at the nearest sign. She had purple eyes, just like the man who kidnaped you." "I can still remember every word she said," announces your mother. "She said, 'He has purple eyes, does he. He'd have to be a magical person, then.' Her own purple eyes gave us a mysterious look, and then she was gone." "She disappeared," explains your father. "So of course she was a magical person herself." "I guess so," you say. "And all magical people live in protected places that you can't get to unless you have something magical to help you." "Exactly," your mother says. "But no more delay, I'm sure you're dying to open your presents." "The presents can wait!" you cry. "I'm going to tell you all that happened to me!" "Why not tell it while you open you presents," suggests your father. You settle down to open your double load of presents and tell your parents all about your adventures. Nearly an hour later, you are finished telling your story and you have opened every one of your presents. Wrapping paper is still scattered about the room, and you and your parents are sitting around the table with contented smiles on your faces. Your mother suddenly speaks up. "But what about all those servants?" she asks. "They're kind of weird," you say. "They love it there, and they actually like housework." "That's not what I mean," she says. "Won't they starve in there? They can't get out, and they've got nobody to bring them food." "You're right!" you say, distressed. "I was so worried about myself that I didn't think about them!" "Could we go back on the plane and rescue them?" your father asks you. "We could try!" you say. "I still know the route." So you go out right away and set to work bringing the servants back. The three of you take turns driving the plane, and you rescue one servant at a time. You would take more, but only two people fit in the plane. The servants all tell you their phone numbers, and your parents call up their parents and tell them of the situation. They tell them to fly in to the Fargo airport and pick up their kids. The next few days are full of joyous family reunions and sorrowful goodbyes. When at last all of the servants have been claimed, you sit down and think about all the strange things that happened to you lately. You wonder why the wizard kidnaped you, and why he didn't make you work for him like he did the other kids. He must have had some wizardly reason for doing all the things he did, but you never do find out what his reason was.
