Lethe Flow Phoenix: a Flight of Fantasy (release 1, August 1995) (release 2, September 1995) Hi! This is my first game, written in TADS (The Text Adventure Development System). To play it, you will need at least version 2.2 of the TADS run-time interpreter, available from ftp.gmd.de in the if-archive/programming/tads directory. There are two versions of this game available there. "lethe.zip" uses the file i/o features available in TADS 2.2 to read and write to a file in which it will save options from game to game, and the other one ("lth-noio.zip") has been compiled without file i/o. The one with file i/o is rather more convenient, so you should try and use that first. If it doesn't work on your system (and I've had at least one person not be able to use it), you should get the other game file without file i/o and try that. If you use the version with file i/o, you must have the file "lethe.cfg" in the same directory as the "lethe.gam" file, or the game will become quite confused. More help is available in game. New users should type "SETUP" and "HELP" after starting the game. ...Enjoy! [For this version, without file i/o, there is no automatic options set-up. The default options set by the game are female character/short intro/verbose room descriptions. This means that you won't ever see the long intro when you start the game. The way to see it is either to type "INTRO LONG" from in-game, or type "SETUP" to set options and then "RESTART". In general, it would be a good move to type "SETUP" upon starting the game and tune the options to ones you like.] [Release 2 notes: Well, this was really just a bug-fixing release. Most notably, the big parser problems with the chain, and with the magnet, have been fixed. Nothing else is especially noteworthy, except that water is handled a bit better, and you can pour it from container to container and so forth. Thanks for those who pointed out bugs.] -- Dan Shiovitz (scythe@u.washington.edu) September 18th, 1995
