Ztools 7/3.1 - 11/7/1998 ------------------------ Author: Mark Howell (howell_ma@movies.enet.dec.com) Currently maintained by Matthew T. Russotto (russotto@pond.com) DOS versions by Steve Nickolas (steve@dosius.zzn.com) Base utilities are available in 16-bit (wcl=Sybase Watcom C16 11.0c) and 32-bit (gcc=gcc 3.03 under djgpp 2.03) versions. Programs build cleanly but their output is untested. (I don't really use them that much, but I think they're nice to have around.) Program DOS-16 File DOS-32 File --------- -------------- -------------- check check.exe check32.exe infodump infodump.exe infdmp32.exe inforead inforead.exe infrd32.exe pix2gif pix2gif.exe pixgif32.exe txd txd.exe txd32.exe The DOS-16 versions should run even on "freak" systems like the Tandy 1000 HX (I have one, BTW). The DOS-32 ones will need a 386, and unless you run them under Windows you will probably need to download CWSDPMI 5 from Simtel. (I find the best place to download Simtel files is the Compaq mirror, http://gatekeeper.dec.com/ - but that's because I have ftp problems occasionally - public access, firewalls, and such. As for why specifically version 5, version 4 had a habit on my AMD machine of completely freezing the system on exit occasionally, so much so that I couldn't even manipulate the keyboard LEDs.) No modifications were made to the sources (although I used my own scripts - included - to build the programs) - so if you want to build from source, get the source distribution from the if-archive. You will need gzip and tar. They'll be within one directory of cwsdpmi on the Simtel mirrors. (When you find the simtelnet/ directory, look in gnu/djgpp/ and the various folders which start with "v2" (v2gnu for gzip and tar, I think cwsdpmi is in v2 but it might be in v2misc). See README.1ST for description of the programs.
