“Finish The Game” Comp First of all, thanks for entering the comp. The general ideal is to take the unfinished game enclosed in this zip file and turn it into a full game. There are two different game files, one works with V3.9 of ADRIFT, the other with V4. The game has been written deliberately ‘vague’. There are six locations and two items (both of which the player begins with). There are no NPCs. The two items the player starts with in his or her possession are described, but nothing else is. Add descriptions for the surroundings as you see fit, or leave them blank. It’s up to you. There are a couple of points where the game ends: a passageway leading to the outside world, and a window overlooking a large drop. Either of these can be used to expand the game beyond its humble beginnings, or you can always add an exit to another location if you like. Then again, if you don’t want a game larger than six locations, simply leave the passageway and the window blocked. What is the purpose of the game? That’s for you, the game writer, to decide. All that is presented here are six locations and a couple of items. What you do with the material to hand is completely your own decision. Good luck! The Rules 1) The six rooms comprised of the comp game must remain in the finished game. Items, NPCs, exits, etc, can be added to them but nothing can be taken away. 2) There is no size limit on the finished game. As many locations, items, NPCs, etc, can be added as you feel necessary. 3) Several items exist in the comp game which can either be used in the course of the full game, or discarded as red herrings. 4) The deadline is Saturday, 24th September 2005 and entries should be submitted to dwhyld@gmail.com prior to that date. Voting will then take place over the next three weeks with the results being announced on Saturday, 15th October 2005. 5) First prize: $30 Amazon Gift Certificate; second prize: $20 Amazon Gift Certificate; third prize: $10 Amazon Gift Certificate (or, if still using V3.9 ADRIFT, you can pick a V4 registration instead). 6) There must be a minimum of three entries for the comp to go ahead. 7) You can submit as many entries as you like. 8) The games can be passworded or not as you see fit. 9) A walkthrough must be included with your submission so I can verify the games can be completed successfully, but these won’t be included in the final competition file (although authors can still make walkthroughs available if they wish). 10) Needless to say, you can’t vote for your own game, although people entering the comp are allowed to vote for everyone else’s games. 11) The comp will use the standard 1-10 rating system. 12) Feel free to change the mood of the game. Make it a comedy or a horror or a sci-fi game. The beginnings of the game are deliberately vague so as to allow the rest of it to be moulded as you see fit.
