Introduction to the Frobot Magic Adventure Mapper v1.2 for Windows 95 Installation is easy. Unzipping Frobot12.zip should give you the following files: frobot.exe - the program (requires win95) frobot.hlp - the help file zorkmap.txt - a sample game log zorkmaze.txt - a log to demonstrate dropping items in mazes zorkmaze.fmm - the saved map after tuning readme.txt - this file which has a fake log at the end To install, move these files to the directory of your choice. To uninstall, delete them along with frobot.ini and any GID files generated by the help system. The names are the same as the v1.0 files except for the zip file. The Frobot Mapper takes the log of a text adventure, such as a WinFrotz transcript of Zork I, and attempts to make a map of the rooms and connecting paths. Simply load the transcript, which is a text file, and the map is produced along with lists of rooms, connecting links, and blocked exits. Success is variable. The map appearance depends on the order in which the rooms were visited, and how completely all two-way connections have been followed. Rooms may be dragged around on the detail map to untangle overlaps. The lists can be saved as a mapper file; when read back in later, the map is recreated. New in versions 1.1 and 1.2: Auto-update leaves old rooms where you put them. (only in v1.2) It recognizes rooms that end with parenthetical remarks. It has an INI file. You can tell it how you got to a place. Several transcripts can be combined into one map. It can give directions from one room to another. A menu and small control window replace the control panel. Connections are marked differently. Corners can be added to the connecting lines. Text blocks can be added to label the map. The Frobot Mapper is not fully tested code. I haven't had significant trouble running the mapper, but the program doesn't have much guarding. Setting some of the parameters to blank or zero will give errors; if they occur faster than you can reset them, the ever popular Alt-Ctrl-Del may be needed. Be nice to it, don't give it junk to digest, and it will be nice to you. A corrupt ini file is one source of errors; try deleting it if this happens. The Fake Log that follows gives a sample map that may be used as a key to game maps - just load readme.txt as if it were a game log: East Room >w West Room >n North to- West from- Here >w West Room >e East Room >se Bottom - One way from East >u Top Room >d Bottom - One way from East >wait After Wait >sw Stubs and Loops >n >e >se >d Stubs and Loops >w Stubs and Loops >nw Outer Room >in Inner Room >out Outer Room >take gold Bat Cave >-by bat >e Outer Room >e Stubs and Loops >ne After Wait
