Kissing the Buddha's Feet: An Interactive Cramming Copyright (C) 1996, 2000 by Leon Lin Version 2.1 Overview -------------------- "Kissing the Buddha's Feet" is a madcap tale of college life which doesn't center around searching for odd knick-knacks in underground steam tunnels. Instead, you're cooped up in your apartment with your roommate, John, who's struggling to study for that all-important final exam which'll determine whether he graduates or not. Being eager to see John on his way, you're happy to help him out, but John's friends don't make it any easier when they drop by for a party... I originally submitted this game for the Second Annual Interactive Fiction Competition. It came in fifth place. Shortly after the competition, I released a new version but with some bug fixes. Recently, I decided to do some long-overdue maintenance on this game, and recompiled it with a more recent TADS compiler (2.4.0) as well as changed the now-outdated contact information. Contents -------- After unzipping the game package (kissing.zip) you should have the following files: kissing.gam The binary game file readme.txt This readme file An interpreter which can run TADS 2.4.0 game binaries is required to play the game. You likely to find one for most platforms at ftp.gmd.de. For Mac users, I highly recommend Andrew Plotkin's MaxTADS interpreter. Version History --------------- 1.0 (10/17/1996) The version submitted to the competition. 2.0 (2/28/1997) Basically the same as 1.0, except for some minor bug fixes and the removal of my anonymity. 2.1 (10/3/2000) This version has new contact information, as I've been out of Berkeley for several years and no longer can receive mail through my old account. This game has also been recompiled with TADS 2.4.0. I have also omitted the walkthrough from the package, though it should still be available from both ftp.gmd.de and my own web site (and you can feel free to e-mail me for help). The game should play the same as before, although I did make a few more minor fixes. I also tidied up the readme file. Legal ----- This game is freeware (though not public domain), and may be freely played, copied, and distributed provided that you: 1) Don't sell it for a profit. You may charge a fee to cover the cost of any media you distribute the game on but no more. Please contact me beforehand if you want to include this game on a collection of some sort. 2) Don't modify the game or the readme file, and include all of these files in any distribution of the game. Latest Version and Contact Info ------------------------------- As mentioned above, you should always be able to get the latest copy of this game from ftp.gmd.de in the if-archive. I will also have a copy of the game, as well as a solution, available at my interactive fiction web page at: http://www.netcom.com/~leonlin/if/if.html If you have any questions, comments, or bug reports, feel free to write me at: leonlin@ix.netcom.com Both my e-mail and web page address should be valid for the forseeable future. Thanks, and enjoy the game! Acknowledgments --------------- Thanks to Kevin Wilson for his advice and help. Thanks also to the Second Annual Interactive Fiction Competition's Internet Beta-Testing team, particularly Michael Kinyon, who helped me find bugs and other annoying oddities in my game I probably would have never discovered on my own. Many thanks also go to the many people who wrote reviews and comments about this game, as well as my previous game, "The One That Got Away". Such criticism has helped me improve and grow as an author of interactive fiction. Thanks to Michael J. Roberts, for writing and supporting TADS, a great interactive fiction development system. Keep up the good work! And finally, thanks to my parents, who have given me their love and support. This game wouldn't have been possible without them. Enjoy the game! Leon Lin October 3, 2000
