Solution to the intro to the Hobbit! Formatted in a step-by-step manner. S P O I L E R S P A C E - As we can see, we are trapped inside a mountain without a light source. - If we check our inventory at this point, we find that we have hit our head and cannot. - Ignore the rustling - it is just there to add "atmosphere". - The only thing we can do now is walk around. - Going up does not yield anything.. - Going down changes the landscape somewhat - we can now hear trickling. - If we listen to it, we find that it is below us. - Going down makes it louder. - Since it is nearer now, it may be in the same room. - Trying to interact with it yields success. - Drinking the water causes you to die. - But it said that the touch of the water initially feels refreshing. - Touching or smelling it will have the side effect of curing our headache. - Now we can take inventory and find an elvish sword. - Examining the sword we see that it is sheathed. - Unsheathing it is prevented by the bat (unless you have already done the next step) - Going west from the starting location causes you to find a ring. - You can't interact with the ring until much later. - The rustling will have stopped if you smelled the water first. - So once you find the ring you can draw the sword. - The sword glows in the dark, allowing us to see. - We can find two unreachable locations - the goblin road (where you are too scared to do anything) and the passage south from Dim Cave. (The pit ledge and goblin wall are red herrings). - In the scree room, we can interact with the sculpture. Feeling or rubbing it causes a flashback to before you were dropped. - Bombur will run into the brook and trip.. - Unless you remind him to jump over it. - The flashback ends and you are no longer too afraid to interact at the goblin road. - Get the hat (there is a paper inside it, clue to a puzzle after the intro AND to the fact that you can put things into the hat). - If we feel this sculpture, we will know that it is vibrating. Listening to it closely makes us less afraid to go south from Dim Cave. It is too dark down there, and things can lurk out of sight. - The sword's glow reflects off the hat; putting the sword into the hat causes it to gather into a single beam. - Doing this at Goblin Road is not a good thing. - But it will illuminate Dark Space and show you a passage to another dark space. - If you explore east of there, you will find the lake and pale lights will appear. - When the pale lights wait for you, waiting for them will cause them to approach. - They turn out to be Gollum (with his boat). - Talking to Gollum is unprofitable, but if you examine him as he squints at you intently, you will find that he is looking at your possesions. - Harrassing him with the sword will cause him to ask you a riddle. - The riddle causes the introduction to end.
