GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE TOHO ACADEMY ADVENTURE GAME ( Are we all sitting comfortably ? Right, little morphs.....) MOVING AROUND. In any location, directions of travel may include the 8 compass points, plus UP, DOWN, ENTER and EXIT. To check, type LIST EXITS if unsure. To examine a location, simply LOOK (or L). INTERACTING WITH OBJECTS. You might be able to do some of the following (if not, you'll find out.) PULL PUSH TURN PLAY GET DROP WEAR REMOVE OPEN CLOSE EAT DRINK SHOOT FIRE. To examine an object, simply EXAMINE (or EX) it. Remember, objects may be located inside other objects. E.g. OPEN THE BOX AND LOOK INSIDE IT. INTERACTING WITH CREATURES. There are a large number of creatures on the island - some are friends, some or foes, and it isn't obvious which are which. TALK TO (whoever) is handy unless they're obviously hostile, as is ASK (whoever) ABOUT (specific subject). Hostile creatures must be fought. Once encountered, they will hold you in combat to the death. For each foe, there is a specific weapon - but several foes might be vulnerable to that weapon. Bear in mind that an initially friendly creature can turn hostile if attacked ! GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS. As you wander mindlessly around the island, you and your companions will probably acquire various items - and get variously injured ! To check on your current state, INVENTORY (I) and EXAMINE SELF (EX SELF). When you take damage, you can HEAL yourself and others, with varying chances of success. HELP (H) may provide useful advice - and it will cost a point. SAVE and RESTORE should be used often, unless you really LIKE retracing your steps. SCRIPT sends a hard copy on your printer, UNSCRIPT cancels. As a hint - be sure you have fully explored each section before you move on. When you discover you need an item, it's generally too late to go back and look for it ! VIEWING OBJECTS This version of Toho Academy lets you see what you're dealing with. Some of the objects and creatures have graphic illustrations that you can look at to your heart's content. Whenever there is a visible object, you can VIEW it. Hitting [Return] returns you to the normal game screen. You can use the Function Keys to provide a "Short Cut" to typing in common commands and directions. Press ? [Return] to see the current defined functions. Using the command DEFINE, you can redefine them to your own needs. MENU_DRIVEN GAMES - VERSION 1.2 onwards Versions 1.2 and upward enable the player to select actions from a menu of possibilities. Just press [Esc] while playing the game, and a drop- down menu of screen options will appear. Select the MENU option, and press [Esc] again to resume play. EXAMPLE OF TYPICAL TURN; The room is pitch dark. You cannot see a thing. TURN TORCH ON You turn the torch on. You see a damp cellar. On a stone slab there is a large mouldering box. OPEN THE BOX AND LOOK INSIDE IT The box is now open. With a fearsome squeak, an Undead Chaos Kare Bare leaps out of the box ! EXAMINE BARE The Bare is a fearsome sight. Its stuffing is oozing out of leprous and threadbare plush as it moves to attack! FIGHT BARE WITH PLUSH SOLVENT You throw the solvent over it. With a dismayed howl, it vanishes into a cloud of green smoke. Congratulations ! Get the idea ? If in doubt, try it. There's LOTS of things you can do on your first day at .........
