ELFQUEST -- INSTRUCTIONS During your adventure in ElfQuest, I will be your slave and do things. I know of places, actions, and things. Most of my vocabulary describes objects, and directions to move you somewhere. To move, try N, E, S, W, U, D, NW, etc... (or use full-length: EAST, NORTHWEST, NORTH, SOUTH, UP or DOWN.) I know about objects, like keys, the small dagger, and others, etc. These objects can be manipulated using some of the various action verbs I know. The objects may have effects on the game (i.e.: the dagger kills an ogre) Usually, if you are having trouble moving just need to try different commands. Usually if you are trying unsuccessfully to manipulate an object, you're trying something beyond my abilities and should try a completely different approach to what you want. Also, note that the Dwarf-Caves are enchanted, and that leaving a room to the NORTH does not necissarily guarantee re-entering it from the SOUTH, etc. Your commands should be in the format: [VERB PHRASE] [NOUN PHRASE(S)]... [PREPOSITION] [NOUN-PHRASE/OBJECT] EX: DRINK THE WATER FROM THE WATER BASIN EXAMINE THE GOLD KEY, THE SILVER KEY, AND THE PLATINUM KEY SHOOT GRINDOR WITH THE DRAGON'S BREATH ATTACK HIM ("HIM" will refer to last noun mentioned, i.e., the ogre) GET THE KEY (also: TAKE THE BOOK) READ IT ("IT" will refer to last noun mentioned, i.e., the book) GET ALL Compound commands can be created by connecting simple commands (as shown above) with "AND", "THEN" or symbols such as "," or ";" to connect two or more separate commands, forming commands like these: DOWN THE STAIRS THEN SOUTH, WEST AND NORTHWEST GET THE DAGGER AND THEN EXAMINE IT; READ THE HANDLE DROP THE KEY AND THE DRAGON'S BREATH AND THEN NORTH The game uses a number of special commands for various scorekeeping functions These are all pretty standard for most adventure games. Specifically: HELP, SCORE, INVENTORY, VERBOSE, LIST EXITS, SAVE, RESTORE, SCRIPT, UNSCRIPT and QUIT. The function/arrow keys have been predefined to stand for several of the most frequently used commands. Similarly, the cursor keys correspond to your various movement/compass directions. UP = NORTH, DN = SOUTH, LT = WEST, RT=EAST. (and so forth) Typing "?" during the game will display a list of useable keys. Sincerely, Parr-Syr
