The Long Journey Home by Danny Chabino Release 2 June 12, 2001 *** Please Check Word Wrap (Under the Edit tab above) *** This game was written and designed to be played using Adrift Runner version 3.90 release 20. The latest version of Adrift can be downloaded from www.adrift.org.uk/downloads If you do not have this version of Adrift installed on your PC, then you must do so in order to play this game. If you have never installed Adrift, it will be necisary to install all components and not just the separate Adrift Runner. To start, open Adrift Runner. From the file tab, select Open. Look in the folder /journey for a file entitled journ2.taf and open it. ------------------------------------------------- The original release of this game was submitted to the official Adrift MiniComp in the Spring of 2001. It has been almost entirely re-written. If you played the original version, you might notice most of the puzzles and descriptions have changed, but the same gist of the story still exists. ------------------------------------------------- If you are new to Interactive Fiction, you will notice that playing a game like this one is similar to reading a book versus watching a movie. Everything in this game is accomplished using text. Where the experience differs from actually reading a book or a short story is that you will have the freedom to interact with the story itself. You will play the roll of the main character, and you will be able to change the story according to how you interact with it. At the command prompt in the game, simply type in a command for your character to fulfill, such as "Walk west." Such commands can also be shortened, such as "west". You can also command your character to pick up objects, ask questions of non-player characters (by using the form "ask /character/ about /subject/") within the story, and anything else you can think of that you might want your character to do. If the game does not recognize a command you've given, you will receive a response indicating that you should try a different command. The object of the game will hopefully become apparent to you once you have begun and become involved with the plot. You will encounter obsticles (also known as puzzles) along the way. You will be awarded points as puzzles are completed so that you can know when you are on the right track. If you get stuck and need a hint, simply type "hint" at the command prompt. -------------------------------------------------- Thank you for playing. Any comments and sugestions are welcome.
