INTRUDER Interactive Fiction: A Burglary Copyright 1998, 1999 by Volker Lanz. Release 59 Interpreter 6 Version F Serial Number 990210 INTRUDER is under copyright and property of the author. Welcome to INTRUDER! INTRUDER is an interactive fiction story in the tradition of the games published by Infocom in the 1980s. A manual in HTML format has been included in this distribution of the story. You should read this manual prior to playing the game since it contains some vital information. This is a Z-Machine game. Don't worry if you don't know what a "Z-Machine" is. All that should bother you about it is that you need a program to actually run the game, like the way you need a VCR to play a video cassette. Interpreters for Z-Machine games are widely available on the Internet (e.g. at ftp://ftp.gmd.de/if-archive/infocom/interpreters/). The good news about interpreters for Z-Machine games is that there are many of them and that the chances for you getting one for your computer platform are pretty good. However, there's also a downside to this: The game can't really tell what interpreter you're using and it might (in rare cases) not work at all with the one you chose. Or, more probably, it might not work correctly. There are various ports of an interpreter called Frotz for many platforms and if you get a version of this one for your computer, things look pretty good. The game has been tested and runs fine with DosFrotz, WinFrotz, Frotz for the Amiga and MaxZip for the Macintosh. It DOES NOT run correctly under JZip and WZip. Once you have an interpreter, you may use it to load and run the story. This is done in different ways with the various interpreters, but all of them will require to give the name of the story file. This name is "intruder.z5". Should you find a bug in the game or come across some serious technical problem that is obviously not caused by the interpreter but by the game itself, contact the author via: volker.lanz@gmx.net Please give a detailed description of your computer setup, the interpreter you're using (including the version and release number) and the story file you're playing (all the details after giving the VERSION command, including release and serial number).
