A HISTORY OF GLORTISH DIPLOMACY Copyleft (C) 76 GE by Beranthar of Shamarre Translated from the original Glortish into US english in 2014 by H. J. Hoke Chapter 1: the Early Days. The Glortish empire was, in fact, created by Diplomacy. When Glort was a scattered group of provinces and city states, there area was plagued by war (in particular, the Great Dalgorian War of 20 TE). However, as new and peaceful leaders replaced old and blood hungry ones, the fog of war began to dissipate. The first notable diplomatic mission was an attempt to create an alliance between Zangarre (southeast) and Dryelle (southwest). This alliance, which was ridiculed for many decades, was later known as the "Indivisible Alliance". Another notable alliance was the one between Dalgor and Shamarre (the "Eutopian Alliance"), in 29 TE. (Note that "TE" stands for "Tiaga Eldakht", or "Day of Beginnings" in the ancient Glortish Language.) Chapter 2: Becoming an empire. The year was 10 GE ("Galdahg Eldakht" - "Day of Magik"), 30 years since the beginning of the diplomatic movement. Marnog of Dalgor made a famous speech, in front of 3000 people (and a few elves) in Gorthox square in Shamarre. The speech is as follows: "Anvari deshight, al shleknov de selbe lichco. Kophth dekht fatorh drahtyneh loebana! Groghtgiy Dorfyan Anvar dredek bohrfath. Drokht bodoveght shyiw shelnaem Hygha ratshleh!" The following is the same speech, translated into english: "Anvar may be our greatest enemy, but we have plenty of strength to overcome them. As scattered provinces we are nothing, but as an empire we are mighty! One day we will be more powerful than Anvar and the other superpowers of Arqon. Let us join together as one, and conquer all that stands in our way!". (Anvar was, at the time, a central kingdom about 55 miles away from Dalgor). This speech, spoken to the councel of leaders, inspired the beginning of a great empire. Only a select few city states chose to form the empire, but by 18 GE, Glort controled most of the southlands (and a few central areas as well). Chapter 3: Diplomatic Magic. Since the discovery of Magic (50 TE), magic has been used in one way or another. The first "wizard" was Tarlok of Shamarre, who wrote the best selling book "On Mysterious Powers" (the original glortish title was "Des tusuyt Queloghtus dredek"). Not until 17 GE was magic used for diplomacy. One notable use of diplomatic magic occured in 21 GE. In exchange for 15 Sodai, A whizard (Dardrek of Dryelle) performed a diplomatic ritual for a rather notable Shaman (Sandark of Dalgor), so that Dalgor's ongoing civel war (15 GE - 34 GE) would come to an end. This caused an uproar in Dryelle, which prompted the council to sue Dardrek, for 2000 Sodai. The case was dismissed. The judge ruled that sinse Dardrek's spell was sold as a service, the case had no legal merit. Another notable use of diplomatic magic was the use of the "DTEect Trap" ("Beulda Des keshte) spell, to insure the protection of the diplomats of Shamarre in 36 GE.
