:DESCRIPTION `7The hallway ends here at a light gray brick wall. Three cell doors (south, southwest, and southeast) line the wall. Two muscular hospital guards (a man and a woman) are standing by the doors. A fourth cell door (which appears to be unguarded) is to the east. :NOGOSW /IFS5=0 `2“I can't let you go in there,” the female guard says to you as she steps in front of the doorway to the southwest. You take two steps back, surprised. “Miss Jenkins, I run this asylum. Step aside, please.” She shakes her head. “This patient paid me to watch his room. What can I say? Sorry.” You frown. “He paid you?” you ask. She smiles. “Yep. $400 Crazy Bucks,” she replies. /ENDS5 /IFS5=1 `2Walking into a closed door would be rather silly. /ENDS5 :NOGOE `2Walking into a closed door would be rather silly. :NOGOS /IFS6=0 `2“This room is under my protection,” the male guard says to you as he steps in front of the door to the south. “What are you talking about?” you demand. “I'm Dr. Hammer. You work for me. Step aside, Mr. Gordon.” The guard shakes his head. “This patient paid me to watch his room. But hey, if you pay me... say... $100 Crazy Bucks, then I'll reconsider it.” He chuckles. You frown. /ENDS6 /IFS6=1 `2Walking into a closed door would be rather silly. /ENDS6 :NOGOSE /IFS7=0 `2“This room is under my protection,” the male guard says to you as he steps in front of the door to the southeast. “Oh, come on!” you stammer. “I pay your salary. You work for me. Step aside, Mr. Gordon.” The guard shakes his head. “This patient paid me to watch his room. But hey, if you pay me... say... $200 Crazy Bucks, then I'll be happy to reconsider.” You grumble. Mr. Gordon chuckles. /ENDS7 /IFS7=1 `2Walking into a closed door would be rather silly. /ENDS7 :NOTALK0 `2Both guards look at you and in unison ask “Are you talking to me?” :CIGTOWOMAN `2You offer a cigarette to the female guard. Her eyes get wide and she greedily grabs the entire pack from you. “Hey, thanks! You know, if you want to check out that cell, feel free. I don't think he's in at the moment anyway.” :NOOPEN1 `2You reach out to open the door, but the guard steps in your way and casts a mean glare at you. “It'll cost you,” says the guard. :OPEN1 `2The door opens easily. :WHICHGUARD `2Which guard are you talking about? :CBNOWOMAN `2You offer the crazy bucks to the female guard. She waves smoke away from her face, exhales another puff, and looks at the stack of bills in your hand. “Free money? For me? Thanks Doc! You didn't have to, you know.” You realize that she's right. “Nevermind,” you say with a grin. She frowns. “Idiot,” she mutters under her breath. :CIGTOMAN `2You offer a cigarette to the male guard. He puts up a hand. “Whoa, Doc, I don't smoke. Thanks for the offer though.” :CBTOMAN1 `2You offer the crazy bucks to the male guard. He takes them happily and begins counting aloud. “5... 10... 16... 21... ” finally arriving at “100.” You look at him expectantly. “Alright, Doc,” he says finally, “Cell #128 is all yours. I think she's out right now, though.” The thought of patients roaming the halls is frightening, but not uncommon these days. You sigh. :CBTOMAN2 `2“I knew you'd come through, Doc,” Mr. Gordon says with a chuckle. He takes the wad of money from you and starts counting it. “You might want to know, though,” he continues, “that going inside cell #127 is a pretty bad idea. I tried feeding him this morning and he nearly stabbed me in the heart with some kind of homemade knife.” You remember this one; Chuck Sanders: homicidal maniac. :WHICHDOOR `2Which door? Please be more specific. There are four cell doors here (south, southwest, southeast, and east). :LOOKDOOR1 `1It's a heavy iron cell door and it's closed. :LOOKDOOR2 `2The heavy iron cell door is open. :SUPPORT look x GORDON x x LOOKG look x JENKINS x x LOOKJ look x GUARD x x LOOKGS talk x GORDON |CIRCLE x GCIRCLE talk x GORDON SQUID x SQUID2 talk x GORDON |SEX x NOSEX2 talk x GORDON |MONEY x TALKM1 talk x GORDON |BUCK x TALKM1 talk x GORDON |HELLO x HELLO1 talk x GORDON x x TALKMAN1 talk x JENKINS |CIRCLE x JCIRCLE talk x JENKINS |HAND x TALKWOMAN2 talk x JENKINS |HABIT x TALKWOMAN2 talk x JENKINS SQUID x SQUID1 talk x JENKINS |SEX x NOSEX1 talk x JENKINS |HELLO x HELLO2 talk x JENKINS x x TALKWOMAN1 talk x GUARD x x NOTALK0 kill x GORDON x x KGR1 kill x JENKINS x x KGR1 eat x JENKINS x x EGR1 give x JENKINS x x NOGIVE3 give x GORDON x x NOGIVE2 give x GUARD x x NOGIVE1 :NOGIVE1 `2Neither of the guards want that. :NOGIVE2 `2Mr. Gordon doesn't want that. :NOGIVE3 `2Miss Jenkins doesn't want that. :HELLO1 `2“Hey there, Doc,” he replies. :HELLO2 `2“Hi, Doc,” she replies. :LOOKGS `2A man and a woman appear to be standing guard. :LOOKG `2Mr. Gordon is a muscular yet thin man with short brown hair. I think it was mostly just hot air from some of the more unruly patients.” :GCIRCLE `2Mr. Gordon tilts his head as you mention the Insanity Circle. “A couple of the really strange patients were whispering something about that the other day,” he comments. “All our patients are strange,” you remind him. He nods and explains that these two were stranger than most. :SQUID1 `2Miss Jenkins looks a little confused. “Are you okay, Doc? You're talking nonsense. A squid monster? Ask Mr. Gordon. I wouldn't know about such things.” :SQUID2 `2The guard chuckles as you mention the squid monster. “Well, I certainly haven't noticed one of those around here,” he replies, “But when I was a kid we used to torture snails by pouring salt on them. But hey, I've grown up since then.” :TALKMAN1 `2Mr. Gordon speaks before you have a chance. “Hey, you're not looking too good there, Doc. I'm not kidding. You're kind of pale. You look sick. You should go home, Doc.” You realize that you actually are feeling a little queasy. :TALKWOMAN2 `2“Yeah, Doc, my habit,” Miss Jenkins replies. “I've been smoking since my first year of vo-tech. I know, it'll kill me, but I can't help it.” :TALKWOMAN1 /IFS5<1 `2The female guard isn't paying attention to you. You notice that her hand is twitching nervously. “Ahem... Miss Jenkins...” you say with authority. She looks up at you. “Come on Doc, leave me alone. I'm way overdue for a break and my habit is kicking in pretty bad right now.” /ENDS5 /IFS5>0 `2The female guard looks up at you and smiles. “You're not as bad as they say,” she says. You frown. “What I meant was,” she corrects herself, “well you're not really a bafoon after all.” You frown more and add a cough to it. “Hey, sorry Doc,” she says sheepishly. “Thanks for the cigs.” /ENDS5 :NOSEX1 `2Miss Jenkins looks shocked. “My word, Doctor, didn't you know that harassment like that isn't tolerated in today's workplace?” She casts a dirty look at you. You grin sheepishly. :NOSEX2 `2The guard looks shocked. “I heard the rumors about you, Doc,” he says slowly, “but I didn't think you'd proposition ME!” You shake your head and sputter “But that wasn't what I meant, really... I mean... I wasn't! Really!” :TALKM1 `2“Crazy bucks have been around for years,” the guard explains. “Around here, they're more useful than cash. The patients have developed their own economic system. You'd be surprised at what a few crazy bucks can buy, Doc.” :KGR1 `2If you had gotten your psychiatric degree through normal methods you might have been aware of something called the Hippocratic Oath. Of course, maybe it only applies to medical doctors. At any rate, your position as hospital administrator might be revoked if you forget the value of human life. Besides, these guards look tougher than you. :EGR1 `2As delightful as that sounds, no. :END
