SOULS OF DARKON (Taskset) ------------------------- SoD looks great on the surface, but you’ll soon discover that it’s not. The graphics are quick to draw, but very ugly. The story is complete nonsense, and, what’s even worse, loads and loads of objects and exits are not described. Plus both the C64 and Spectrum versions have their share of bugs. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! (You begin on a muddy path) EXAMINE SCULPTURE, PULL METAL (this is not mentioned in the C64 version)(you find a hook and a fork), GET HOOK, GET FORK, X FORK (a tuning fork), W, GET HELMET, WEAR HELMET, E, E, CLIMB TREE, GET COIN, GET RING, WEAR RING, EXAMINE RING (it carries the mark of the Guard of Darkon), D, S GET BOTTLE, W, ZAP ROBOT (Komputa kills the robot), EXAMINE ARM, PRESS BUTTON (otherwise the crystal explodes when you try to take it), GET VISOR, DROP VISOR (underneath it is a crystal), GET CRYSTAL, W, EXAMINE ALTAR, PRESS CARVINGS (this releases the plaque), EXAMINE STONE, TURN PLAQUE (you find a bent sword and an axe), GET AXE, GET SWORD, E, E, N, N, GIVE AXE TO WOODSMAN (he offers you an anti-gravity belt, which you need it in the marsh. He also offers you some other items), GET ROPE, GET BELT, WEAR BELT, S, S, W, W, S, OPEN DOOR, ENTER, GIVE COIN TO BLACKSMITH (he straightens your sword), OUT, EXAMINE BARREL (here’s your sword), GET SWORD, W, PUT CRYSTAL IN FOUNTAIN (it starts flowing with gold), FILL BOTTLE WITH GOLD, EXAMINE MAN (he’s a guide), GIVE GOLD TO GUIDE (why he needs it from you when there’s a fountain filled with it next to him is beyond me!!), FOLLOW GUIDE, FOLLOW GUIDE (he takes you past the otherwise impassable monolith), PRESS BUCKLE (on the belt – you lift off the ground), E, HOLD BREATH (to prevent yourself from passing out in the marsh), S, ZAP SERPENT (otherwise it’ll turn up later and kill you), N, E (the belt disappears – don’t worry), TIE HOOK TO ROPE, THROW ROPE Darkon’s residence: CLIMB ROPE (the guard sees the ring and opens the door), ENTER, OPEN DOOR, E, PRESS MOUTH, PRESS MOUTH, IN, GET KEY, GET JAR, EXAMINE JAR (chloroform), OUT, S, GET CAN, S, WATER STAR (with the can – the star cools off), LEGEND (the star is a silicon one), GET STAR, E, STRIKE FORK ON PLATE (a passage appears), FOLLOW KOMPUTA (he’s killed instead of you!), SAY SILICON, ATTACK KRAYTOR WITH STAR (he turns to glass), STRIKE FORK ON KRAYTOR, E, S (to enter here safely, you should have killed the serpent in the marsh), EXAMINE INFRA (this turns on infrared mode, which allows you to see – very illogical!), TURN WHEEL, PULL WHEEL (the stairs to the north stop moving), N, U, S, EMPTY JAR (you can pass the snakes now), S, CUT ROPE (you fall down to face Darkon), SAY SILICON, ATTACK DARKON WITH STAR, PUT SWORD IN FLASK, PLUNGE SWORD IN DARKON (with the souls of many people in the sword, Darkon is defeated!) Notes: 1) This was solved on a C64. In the Spectrum version, you must PULL PIECE instead of METAL in the beginning. 2) You have to LOOK to see objects (???). LEGEND works as a sort of help.
